The Performance Retrofit, Port Melbourne, VIC Passive House-Level Renovation

This 1940s brick veneer home was completely reworked for a young family focused on comfort and clean air. We retained the original façade, added a new first floor, and rebuilt the envelope to Passive House standards.

A major highlight was achieving a blower door result of 0.51 ACH — better than EnerPHit benchmarks and aligned with new-build Passive House airtightness standards. This performance significantly improves thermal control, energy efficiency, and air quality.

We added 50 mm XPS to the existing double-brick walls, increased floor thickness from 90 mm to 140 mm with R4 HD insulation, and introduced a cold roof system with full ceiling insulation and ventilation management. The roof design incorporated imported eave ventilation, façade ventilation, bird vents, and Figaroll, ensuring moisture control and airflow above the membrane.
